3G Mobiles & Smartphones

The term 3G mobile refers to the Third (3rd) Generation mobile networks. This generation of networks and handsets, was introduced in the early part of the millennium. The difference from the previous generations is the highest speed for sending and receiving data (bit rate), the ability to send video, images, sound and data, to connect to the internet, perform video conferencing and many more.

3G mobiles are penetrating the market and more and more of us get hold of one every day. From early models like the Nokia 3510, to the E71 and the Blackberry we all want something that will connect us to the internet, to take photos, listen to MP3s and send photo messages.

With new generation phones come new opportunities and new challenges. Investigating new handsets becomes more and more complicated. This means that investigators need to be up to date at all times, and to engage new technologies as they appear.

Strathclyde Forensics is keeping on top of developments, by CPD and retaining close ties with universities, forensic forums and forensic science organisations.
