Children today are brought up in a world where the internet is something taken for granted. There are millions of children that do not know a world without internet, cable TV and mobile phones.

Children, and especially teenagers who are in a vulnerable and impressionable age, can easily become victims of frauds, or even worst internet predators.  Using chat-rooms and social networking sites (i.e. Facebook, Bebo etc.) children are exposed to fraudsters and even worse, sexual predators.

This creates a big problem for parents, especially if there is a certain age difference or if the parents are not as IT literate as their children. This is easy to happen. Many people work in non-computerised jobs, or they make limited use of computers. Children start from scratch and build up their IT knowledge following much easier the technological developments. It is now common for parents not understand what their children are talking about when they talk about the net.

Some parents feel that their kids are protected completely if they are using parental controls with their internet connection. But there is no such thing as complete security. And the worst part is that predators do not need to penetrate your security. Your children will bypass your security. If you do not know what a proxy server is, your teenage child probably knows. And that is a problem by itself.
