USB (Storage Devices) Forensics
USB
sticks are almost in everybody's pocket or bag. Many people
have one with their key chain, while others even wear it around
their necks. However you choose to carry it, you probably can not
live without it in this day and age.
USB sticks are portable storage devices. Not long ago (around 5-6
years back) the average USB key would be less than 500Mb. Today, the
norm is 4Gb with producers introducing devices of up to 64Gb for a
very approachable price.
You
might use it to store your favourite MP3 songs, your CV or important
documents, photographs and anything else you might see as important
to have with you.
No
matter which of the above you choose to use, things can go wrong.
Devices can fail and important data may be lost. However chances are
that all is not really lost. Many devices fail to be read by a
computer, but the data may still be there. If there is something to
be retrieved, Strathclyde Forensics will be able to salvage it.
USB devices come
to us in all imaginable conditions. Although not all cases are
recoverable, we have a success rate of more than 93% in USB key data
recovery.
